Inspired by H. P. Lovecraft‘s „Colour out of Space“ (1927) and the fear of the unknown.
This piece shows a ship on rough sea facing strange light beams from the sky. Their light tints everything in pink colour.
One might think it’s aliens, another one feels like the pink tint might have an effect on everything it touches, on everyone that sees it.
We think we know where it’s coming from, from the sky. We think we know what it does, it lights everything up in pink.
Do we really know? Has someone started a conspiracy theory around it yet?
It‘s easy to talk about „the media“ and new technologies. It’s not easy to foresee what humanity will be like in the future with all these developments forced upon it. Through all the natural sciences, philosophy is needed too in this discussion. Thought experiments and thoughts about humanity developing further and further are part of that. Is everything we do human and natural? Are there boundaries to our humanity that are broken through technology at one point? If we have the capacities to break humanity, aren’t we already something else than humans? What are we and what are we going to be?
Philosophy gives more questions than answers.
And that is what it’s about.
