These paintings are a series of works I have created by conjuring up images of words in the form of clouds.
Nihao (你好, which has the literal translation of “you good”)the basic greeting in Chinese. However, this is very often misused as street harassment and micro-aggression against people of Asian heritage.
by making these works, I wanted to express my discomfort towards racial profiling in the most euphemistic way possible by combining the subject matter with the soft, pleasant images of clouds.
Although these paintings address a somewhat uncomfortable subject of racism, they are painted in a taciturn language of euphemism. I am interested in the way this kind of discretion might imbue more weight and awareness into the subject being treated.
