Title: It is hard to find a polyphonic body
Duration: 7 min. 45 sec.
Year: 2016
Synopsis:
Our contemporary lives are constantly evolving thanks to unprecedented technological possibilities and lightning-fast internet connections. Will our fragile bodies soon be replaced by their virtual equivalents? The unstable movement of a human in space can be recorded in the form of a musical code. In my video work, the moving figure determines the elements of the musical composition. The construction of the video is based on using the landscape as a space for musical notation.
The surroundings of majestic fjords have been adapted as an environment to create a unique score for a piece performed simultaneously by a set of virtual instruments. The video, created as part of the Artist-in-Residence program at Kunstnarhuset Messen Ålvik, consists of scenes of a majestic Norwegian landscape in which the moving figure determines the pitch of each frame, from higher to lower. At the bottom of the frame, there are screen records, captured in a creative software environment. Virtual instruments are constantly generating music notated in the landscapes above.
