The artwork “hideout” develops from three artistic practices, the collection and recording of images from walking as esthetic practice, in the real world, and on the internet; the artistic intervention and its recording; and the video art narrative between reality and fiction, ecosystems, and worlds to come.
Imagining a milestone and mapping the Nature of Anthropocene from the scene created by the development of communication technologies and image production, which provided to record globally the climate, humanitarian, and animal crises, which worsened in 2020 in the form of Covid-19. The artwork created two parallel narratives from records of contemporary reality, without special effects or computerized editions, only record from the actuality, obtained from the internet and social media, and created by the artist. The fiction and reality intertwine in the search for an escape and refuge in the middle of the Nature of the Anthropocene and beyond the post-industrial capitalist modernity.
One of the narratives takes place on a walking of the internet throughout the year 2020, enabling the collection of videos from downloads and print screens of social media and internet, records of the social and ecological chaos of recent years, and especially of 2020. Following a process similar to a walk along a street or a wasteland, collecting images and objects. Records of the impacts of Covid-19 around the world in the way of empty cities, animals that take over the city, the great burning and destruction of what left of nature originating in Brazil, the advances in space technology, the race to escape from the Earth, and the creation of a new Nature, the Nature of Anthropocene.
In parallel follows a narrative of the record of the intervention “hideout” (2020), created in the ecosystem established in the incomplete ruins of the Theater Laboratory of the Institute of Arts of Unicamp (Campinas-SP Brazil). A place where the artist has been developing several interventions at the intersection between art and ecology since 2017, and which became an experimental laboratory for research on the nature of Anthropocene and new ecosystems conducive to taking refuge in a world to come.
