For analogue photography, the negative is the primary record from which printed photos are obtained. It is a record which appears when the light paints a scene on a film with complementary colors. In the age of digital cameras, we are able to immediately see the final outcome – positive and not think about the process of creating the photo itself. Therefore, we are trained to passively observe that final product – photograph and not to search for its qualities.
In this series of photographs the colors of the positives are replaced with complementary colors. This way the process of creating an analog photo is simulated in the opposite direction and they show what the light has written down primary. That final outcome – the positive is now described with the opposite properties and everything that seemed to be meaningful is erased, but enables the possibility of a completely different view of a recorded moment.
In the era of modern technology, people live almost completely separated from nature, and above all, they neglect its significance. The purpose of this series of photographs is making people dedicated to observation of nature by engaging themselves in decoding the negatives – creating the positive through their own prism. So that they can see again all the beauties that nature is selflessly offering to us in every moment.
