My submission counts 3 artificial creatures called BLUE COPEPODS. Since the discovery in June 2020 I've introduced 12 these creatures on my website www.patternfly.com, and, the count won’t stop. In order to convey the idea of discovering a new animal species, I wanted to create mysterious alien-looking creatures that are not familiar with any existing animal.
In nature discovering a new animal or plant species is sometimes a matter of luck. The explorations in the deep ocean have always inspired me. Especially the most bizarre luminous appearances, which live on the seabed have always had my attention. I often dreamed about discovering unknown species myself.
Instead of working with a deep underwater camera or modulating the images in 3D, the origin digital blueprints are actually from the dried flowers of begonia plants. Each captured flower had its own imperfect shape, which makes each creature unique. They can be even recognized by the characteristic shape of the tail.
BLUE COPEPODS are probably inside surprisingly uniformly built like most animals. They all look slightly different on the outside. Some of the Blue Copepods fall a little bit outside the rest, but that makes the selection more versatile. Their digital DNA matches 100% so it won't be a problem.
The humans have explored only 5% of the oceans, so there are many more creatures like BLUE COPEPODS swimming in the digital deep. That gives me a huge boost as a visual artist to continue with this virtual exploration project. Through this fine art photography project I entered a whole new world as a creator.
