There is a formability of the auditory beyond musical parameters. The focus should be on comprehensive, not selective listening. Based on Murray Schafer’s cultural history of hearing, an understanding of music is thus created that encompasses the category of music but transcends the dominant contemporary concept of music. Following this approach, music can no longer be perceived only auditory, but above all holistically, sensually and mentally. Hearing is thus integrated into the totality of the senses, so that a complete immersion takes place. The narrow concept of music, which distinguishes between what is worth listening to and what is not, is thus discarded and listening is understood as an act of freedom.
