Soul-Food Bag consists of a surreal photograph depicting a bag with food for our souls, and thus allowing for multiple interpretations around what we need, what we have and how we approach everything with our vision-based acts.
Given the impossibility of knowing exactly the content of the bag, the result of this collaborative action allows for a diachronic perspective of the existing values in a society. Those variable values will change while the appearance of the bag will remain the same, thus confronting the synchronically aesthetics of the present time with the future interpretations of Soul Food.
Moreover, given the absence of background context, the image prompts the realm of abstraction as the trend setter scenario for philosophical discussions, and so the cognitive space for digesting food for thought.
The title (Soul-Food Bag) implies the divergence when interpreting a religious concept such as soul in current secular societies, the material vs the immaterial, adding the consumerism layer of click-and-collect solving approaches to human challenges. That is why the shape of the bag replicates one including fast food. The logotype (pill) also boosts criticism against instant healing processes.
Finally, even if uploaded by one person, this photograph (it may not be an artwork) cannot be attributed to one single person, but to the collective process of value matching that differs from the genius-based production view. This bag is attributed to cooperation and so it points towards the importance of producing, not creating, as a form of art. The context before the content.
