According to the latest anthropological researches people living in the 21st century have better quality of life than our ancestors . I do agree with this statement to an extent. The rapid advance of technology, medicine and economy is an undeniable fact. More and more people have access to health care, education potable water and food. But is providing our basic need enough to say that our kind is thriving? Western society has grown greedy and obsessed with the material world. So many young people are suffering from a form of a psychological disorder which is directly related to their frustration of the way modern world functions. People are put in a system which is depersonalizing them. It's common among young individuals to search for an escape from reality in substances such as drugs and alcohol. This is not an excuse but the reasoning behind their actions.
This is what I'm trying to illustrate with my project "Rêves synthétiques". Each picture is a visual metaphor for the effect that drugs have on people. The pictures are taken on different locations in order to implement the idea that no matter where we're, our thoughts could wander off to dark places and push as to damage ourselves just to get a glimpse of happiness and a fleeting escape from everyday life. Welcome to Heaven!
