During the last months, in this atypical year of 2020, several configurations of the gaze and the image have been transformed. Be it for circulation restrictions, or for the territories of the visible that have been valued. Some trends can be highlighted, especially for visual artists and photographers in particular.
One that interests me a lot is the escape from the quarantine that the screens present to all of us. Today, much of what we experience, we experience through screens, the most diverse and versatile. One reason is space now has a new and diverse dimension, the on-line counterpart. It is a new form to define and represent space.
The world is mirrored, and it seems to make sense there; often, just there. In the COVID isolation, now diluted, exploring the restricted space on the street required new strategies. Google Street View (GSV) maps navigable images to large parts of the urban world. So, it was natural and necessary, for our voyeurism, to float in the spaces of these possibilities.
Photographing the screen is just another step in this practice. We know that, since Michael Wolf, taking street photography has gained this interesting option. Based on this new reality, the Many Eyes series addresses the construction of this new kind of visuality; is to become aware that when we see, we are also being seen, in some way.
For this project, I´ve made a search in GSV, walking through street of cities in the world that, at least, I have been for some time. The final goal was to reconizes the indefective shadow of service´s car, the main tool to collect all the imaginery that will build up the views in GSV. It is a way to make us aware of the other side of the mirrors we have been looking througth.
