CARNE VIVA (Raw Flesh) Oil on canvas, 2019
In this work I created a depiction of the map of Amazon rainforest covered by the texture of human skin. Through research, I found the location of the largest areas of deforestation and inserted them in the composition as burns and injuries.
Under 20 years over 400.000 sq. kilometers of the Amazon rainforest were depleted, my intention with this piece is to transpose the materiality of human skin under the virtuality of a map to bring out the dialectical tension of our body with the environment that we are destroying.
MANTO (Mantle) Oil on canvas, 2019
The work is a reinterpretation of the cartographic print “Carte du Brésil“, made by Debret in 1834.
The map and its archaic representation are “invaded” by skin in the most coastal areas of the country, referring to both the demographic density and the ethnic matrices that build Brazilian history.
The rivers and tributaries are placed in the composition as veins and arteries that run through and “bleed” the territory.
In a fusion between Cartesian cartography and chaotic organicity, the work “Manto” seeks to re-signify an iconographic element along with the possibilities of hyper-realistic and anatomical representation, alluding to the historical and social references of Brazil.
CHAGAS: Oil on Canvas, 2020
In this work, the lines of representation of the South American and African continents are represented as cuts in a small area of human skin.
