"How to Travel" – an audiovisual project created by Ewa Doroszenko and Jacek Doroszenko consisting of:
– a series of photographs entitled "Impossible Territory";
– a video work entitled "Imagine yourself on an island in the middle of the ocean";
– musical compositions and sound installation;
– photographic objects.
The project is based on observations on online travels, which are an interesting form of entertainment, and in the face of the ongoing pandemic, they become the only completely safe way to travel. Using Google Street View, popular computer games, tourist guides, and other Internet sources, we have studied how digital culture changes our perception of the natural landscape. Fascinated by modern information technologies and their incredible potential to shape lifestyles we have tried to answer the question of how to authentically capture the rich duality of physical and virtual life we now experience and how to present the offline and online experience of real natural surroundings.
The photographic series is accompanied by the video in the form of online guided meditation, presenting one of the ways to achieve a state of internal balance in the era of information overload. Similar tendencies are also used in the sound installation, which involves processes of entering a state of relaxation through simulation.
By using the alphabet of contemporaneity and looking at one of the most classic themes – a landscape, we attempted to present the very common in the digital age craving for relaxation in an idyllic environment.
