Andrii Dostliev “Cruising (Thirty-six Views of)”, 2020 (work-in-progress)
Speaking of popular outdoor cruising places, my first association with these landscapes is the high concentration of used tissues lying around. Not even straightforward sex-related trash like condoms or empty poppers bottles but these crumpled tissues with traces of bodily fluids — of various colours — covering the ground. These assemblages of used tissues (with an obvious reference to Hokusai’s “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji”) map the similarities and differences of the human-altered landscapes that carry the traces of the complex entanglement of sexual pleasures and loneliness, of our fears and our desires.
