Nothing is more satisfying than the feeling of a tool that truly works, something that get’s the job done and is tailored towards an exact task. Often primitive and straight forward these tools offer solutions to very concrete tasks. In this series the highly functional tools have been stripped of their intended function rendering the objects as studies in uselessness. What are tools if you remove their function? By removing the functional aspect of these iconic tools the usability is questioned and the focus is diverted towards material and form as aesthetic qualities. The objects retain their functional expression whilst being transformed to useless artefacts. Our intention is to open up a dialogue about form and function, to question use and hierarchal structures or classes of objects. We believe that there is real beauty in theses tools, beauty that has been developed and derived purely from necessity and purely with the intention of fulfilling a specific function. By interfering with the function we pay tribute to the form that has evolved over time.
