“The future of art is decentralized” – The idea of a decentralized, blockchain-based World Wide Web also affects museums and the art market. Musee Dezentral is a virtual NFT museum in the metaverse, where artists and collectors exhibit works of art minted as NFTs and visitors can discover digital art in a new and immersive way. The Musee Dezentral is easily accessible via browser. Visitors move as avatars through the collection, which will finally contain 222 frames (privately owned) with NFTs, or through current special exhibitions. To provide access to as many people as possible, Musee Decentral uses a proprietary graphic engine that supports smartphones as well as the latest VR equipment. The decentralized blockchain technology is the basis for the participation of many different actors in this prototype of a Future Museum.
The Open Call offers digital artists and collectors the opportunity to be part of a special swarm-curated virtual exhibition at Musee Dezentral. Are you a digital artist already minting your artwork as NFTs? Or would you like to exhibit an artwork that you own as an NFT? Then join us! “The future is decentralized – NFT exhibition curated by previous.nextmuseum.io Community” will be online from 15.9.-15.10.2022. Ten NFTs are being sought, with the final selection made via community voting in late August 2022.
For your submission to the Open Call, you will need 1-3 visuals of your NFT artwork and some descriptive text about the work and digital artist. Please note a maximum length of 10 seconds for videos. It doesn’t matter on which platform the NFT was minted, in the special exhibitions of the Musee Dezentral any source can be linked. For the link to your NFT, please use the “Homepage” field in the web links section.
Are you doing digital art but haven’t gotten into blockchain, NFT, etc. yet? With its online service, the start-up Kollektor.io offers interested artists an easy and eco-friendly start into minting and selling NFTs of their digital artworks. The NFTs can be integrated on existing social channels or own websites and offered for sale, no cryptocurrency is needed and it is minted low CO2 on the open source blockchain Algorand.

Curatorial statement
The ten minted artworks are permanently stored on a blockchain and will be shown in a virtual exhibition at the Musee Dezentral from the 15th of September to the 15th of October this year. All of those works are NFT-based and through that part of a contemporary art movement, less than 20 years old. What represents the decision we have made?
Parallel to our previous.nextmuseum.io swarm curation, international panels are discussing what the requirement for an NFT in contemporary art can be. The idea of a typology of application still seems far away. Our swarm curation brings together submitting collectors, curators and artists. Depending on the moment of discussion, depending on the desire, the individual role changed. No limits, no mandatory assignment. Together we discussed the NFT-based works sent to us within the Open Call - first in a video conference, then in a Telegram chat.
Surely, this exhibition will also be used as an advertising platform for one or the other associated project. But this is not to be negated in principle: NFTs make it possible to investigate functions of the art market and to involve us playfully, as well as provocatively into the process.
New NFT-based artworks and projects are presented daily on continuously expanding levels of communication. Social exchange drives it. Whether on Twitter, Discord, Matrix or Telegram; whether blockchain-based or part of Web2 - the discussions and NFTs hereby represent a current state of things. "The future is decentralized" provides insight into the global network, but makes no claim to completeness. However, the systematically open decision-making process is surprisingly representative for the structure of development of NFTs. Participation is basically open to anyone with internet access.
It would be absurd to claim that it is possible to walk through an NFT exhibition, such as ours, as through any other. Of course, it would be possible to hang on to the massification in the sense of PFP-Collectible culture and enjoy the visual layer. Then again, why not? The surrounding digital architecture of the Musee Dezentral does also invite one to it. But we want to continue the exchange: About and with NFT-based art, in its beloved and sometimes unpopular facets.
By storage form alone, these works are self-referential and thus a step in a different direction from previous artworks. Free of the claim of artistic singularity, these works also show references to each other on this level. These are not memes. Surrounded by fluffy, soft clouds, one is a reference to text-based NFTs. Another is an image from a gamified NFT series, one file of which alone has had an effect on us. Animated blue and yellow pixels show a moment of participation and support in times of war, emotionalizing in a few seconds. We have decided to also exhibit the digital layer of a phygital, a digital artwork with a conceptually linked physical object. In what ways will we be able to lose ourselves in a graphic work stored as NFT? How does the influence of Generative Art manifest itself?
We have engaged in discourse within this swarm curation - Our exhibition is an element of an ongoing process. Together we will continue to raise critical questions. One answer may be: The future is decentralized.
