Open Call:
Closed
50 years ago, on 6 June 1971, the art collector and publisher Kurt Fried (1906-1981) was able to open an exhibition in Ulm that was extraordinary for its time and unique in its kind. “The most beautiful picture at my house” invited the people of Ulm to bring personal favourite pieces from their own four walls to the studio f gallery. This opened up to the public a secret glimpse of private wall decorations and the individual artistic tastes of acquaintances and strangers.
Half a century later, in a time when participation and interaction are no longer foreign words in the exhibition business, the Museum Ulm takes up Kurt Fried’s idea and transforms it into the present. With this open call, we invite the worldwide public to show us art treasures and art works that occupy a special place in their private living space, are charged with special meaning and tell a story.
With this open call we would like to discuss with you. Why do we surround ourselves with art, pictures and objects in our living spaces? What do we hang at home? What is the difference to museums? What do we collect and present on behalf of the public? How does our personal aesthetic taste differ? Is it dependent on time and trends?
After the open call and the final selection from the proposals, we invite all participants to bring the selected favourite works on loan to the Museum Ulm. (Loans are provided free of charge, insurance is provided by the Museum Ulm.)
The exhibition “The Most Beautiful Picture at My Home 2021” which we develop from this selection will open on 23 July 2021 an be on display until 24 October 2021. We look forward to your submissions and stories about your favourite artwork!
You can only participate with one favourite artwork and please describe why this is your favourite. Please do not forget to indicate the location of the artwork in the text and use only copyright-free images.
