Will we have trusted in VR?

9.3.22 18:00
CET

In 2020, media artists Daniel Hengst and Clemens Schöll launched an open call on previous.nextmuseum.io to find artistic positions in the field of virtual reality that critically examine their own medium. Originally planned as an exhibition at the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf and the Nudel in Zeitz, a postal-virtual adaptation was finally opened due to the effects of the pandemic.
“In VR we trust” can be experienced via limited edition Cardboard VR glasses. The first 20 registrations for the talk will receive a copy via mail!

Nina Roehrs is the founder and CEO of Roehrs & Boetsch Gallery, based in Zurich. Roehrs & Boetsch dedicates its programme in particular to digitalisation and its impact on society. Currently, the gallery is actively exploring the limits of conventional exhibition models and trying to find new ways where conventional methods fail; such as with the virtual reality platform CUBE.

In the talk, we will discuss different perspectives, e.g. of artists and houses, the role and expectations of users, as well as breaks and interfaces between analogue and digital space, technology as an expansion of consciousness and technology as a limitation. We want to look into the past and the future: Is VR merely a continuation of media history or a radical change in the way art is produced and perceived? What potential does VR have with regard to the metaverse? Are the boundaries between the virtual and real worlds increasingly dissolving? Will we have trusted in VR?
