Thinking about a future DAO
previous.nextmuseum.io rethinks exhibition making with collaborative approaches. The cross-institutional digital platform was launched in 2020 by NRW-Forum Düsseldorf and Museum Ulm and is funded by the Federal Cultural Foundation in the Fonds Digital until the end of 2023. previous.nextmuseum.io provides the technological basis for swarm curation and drives discourse.
The mission: differentiated, better exhibitions that are relevant to more people; more democracy in arts and museums. From 2024 on, a new organizational form will be needed to run the platform. Could a DAO be the future of previous.nextmuseum.io?
DAO – a Decentralized Autonomous Organization is a blockchain-based organization with common purpose without hierarchical management. Shares are mostly managed through tokens and democratic voting is ensured through protocols that are fixed and transparent. DAO members decide together on the governance and coordination of the project, but also on activities or the use of financial resources. Or, as some say: Friends with Discord channels and wallets.
